Churdhar Peak is the trekking place in Sirmour district and is also the highest peak (3647m) in the outer Himalayas. Chur-Dhar is also known as Churi-ChandniDhar (Bangles of Snow ridge). Churdhar is a holy place related with Shri ShrigulMaharaj (ChureshwarMaharaj), a deity widely worshipped in Sirmour and Chaupal. The place can be approached by lots of routes but the main routes are from Nohradhar, Sirmour of 14km and Sarahan, Chaupal of 8km.It is a very famous trekking destination in Himachal tour package.
This is the oldest temple in the state which is during the times of the Mahabharata, behind this temple, there is a big story. During the times of Mahabharata, one person whose name is Churu go to this temple and he is with his son and they are sitting on the stone which is very big and suddenly a snake came there and they went to run but they are not able to run then the Shirgul Maharaja saw that a big snake is killing his pilgrimage then he break the stone into part on the one part of stone is fixed and the second part is fallen so the snake is killed and churu and his son are safely going home that is why place is known as Churdhar. In this temple there is a statue of Lord Shiva is situated on the top of the hill, this temple is also known as Shirgul temple because it is another name of Lord Shiva.
